And how to get the look using Natural Makeup

We’re pretty lucky here in NZ, we can peek into the future and jump on board the latest makeup trends a season ahead of the northern part of the world.

With Fashion weeks in full swing around the world, I wanted to pick out some of the best trends for the coming Spring and Summer that are sure to stick around (and easy to bring off the catwalk and into real life!) and of course, no nasties here, just beautiful, natural makeup!

This season it’s all about fresh and easy (thank goodness, hard and stale is not our style!)

Have you noticed that there’s a resurgence of Brooke Shields-like brows recently, thanks to the likes of Cara Delevingne. Bold full brows are in and easy to achieve. Use a good eye brow pencil, we love this one, the sharper the better to create small hairlike strokes to fill in the brows. If you have dark hair, go a couple of shades lighter or if you have light hair, you can afford to go one or two shades darker. Use the little spool brush at the end of the pencil to continuously blend up and out as you fill in those brows. The bonus is you don’t need to be too pedantic about plucking and shaping, for the time being anyway!

Fresh Skin

I love that fresh skin is in! It’s always been a pet peeve of mine as a makeup artist, seeing gorgeous skin covered up by a thick layer of makeup. Your skin is to be enhanced not masked so let it glow! This is easy enough to achieve- drink lots of water, get plenty of sleep- all of the old cliches! But also, use skincare that compliments your skin and choose your foundation wisely. Choose a colour that matches your face and a texture that is light and nourishing. Only use full coverage such as concealer for blemishes that your foundation hasn’t covered. Another must have of the season is a SOFT highlight. No more contouring-like-a-Kardashian allowed! Just a soft highlight to a few key spots: top of cheek bone, down the centre of the nose, tip of the nose (only if you have a cute button nose, if not, avoid! It’ll only make your nose look larger) brow bone and cupids bow.

Soft eyes, Strong lips

Again, it couldn’t be easier. Neutral, nutty, caramels are just the ticket to creating a soft tea stained eye which is the go-to this season. Super simple, just find your colour, dab your eyeshadow blending brush to pick up some colour and swirl around the eyelid from lashing to brow bone. gently buffing gives you a diffused look as opposed to a harsh line of colour. Then finish with a good dark mascara. This pairs so brilliantly with a bold lip and you can go anywhere from an orange to red to magenta. A bit of colour can lift your spirits and sour from water into spring!

Sweaty Smudgy Eyeliner

It couldn’t be easier to get this seasons eyeliner look. It’s not for everybody mind, but can look stunning for a boho-rocker slant. Several shows at NYFW including Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, Baja East, and Narciso Rodriguez showcased this sexy and dead easy look.

Grab your eyeliner pencil, it doesn’t have to be black, brown or a deep blue or olive would work well too. Roughly dot a line your eyes top and bottom, close to the lash line. With your middle finger softly dab and smudge Use your go-to balm, make sure it’s a natural one of course, you don’t want petroleum based products seeping into those peepers! Pat over the lid. that’s it, no eyeshadow necessary.
