This homemade body butter recipe is the answer to my skin’s prayers.
I love using a body moisturiser after a shower, but being the label reader that I am, it can be quite frustrating to find a pure chemical-free moisturiser or body butter. Even the “natural” brands out there contain things like phenoxyethanol, which is sometimes necessary as a safer than paraben preservative. Now I’m sure it’s fine in small doses in certain products but when you’re applying a product to a large surface- like your entire body- day in and day out, it’s just better to avoid it all together.
The other ingredient that appears a lot in body butters is Hydrogenated oils (this is the process of turning a normally liquid-at-room-temperature oil into a solid, think margarine) . I try my darndest to stay away from trans fats in my diet, so I’m not all that keen to absorb them into my skin either!
Any way, that’s my rant done and thankfully there’s no need to worry. Here is a gorgeous recipe that I’ve adapted from two of my favorite health and food sites Holisticsquid.com and Rawmazing.com
What you’ll need:
1/2 Cup Cacao Butter
1/2 Cup Shea Butter
1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
1/2 Cup Jojoba Oil (or another liquid oil such as Almond or mild Olive oil)
15-30 Drops of Essential oil (my favorite oils are doTerra because they’re Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade)
The scent (and therapeutic benefit) combinations are endless. I’d love to hear what your favorite essential oil combos are.
Enjoy!
